My brother and I escaped from our hutch on Thursday 10th April from Mallard Road, near the Copse. We’re not used to running free and don’t have a homing instinct so won’t find my own way home.
We are almost identical, slim but long, sandy coloured and pretty fast. We can curl up quite small and fit in your cupped hands. We like to burrow and hide in small dark places: under a shed, under the decking, in a pipe, container or box. Please check sheds, garages or outbuildings. If we snuck indoors, we could be anywhere! In your sock drawer, or the bathroom pedal bin! if there’s a hole or gap we can fit through, we will investigate it!
We will come out when I’m hungry and am naturally active at dawn and dusk, so please keep a look out for me in your gardens. We need to eat and drink often so we will be very hungry and thirsty so perhaps you could leave some fresh water in your garden for us. We need to stay out of the sun as it’s dangerous for me to get overheated. We sleep a lot during the day and sometimes so heavily I might appear dead! When I’m awake I rarely keep still but after a couple of days I will be weaker.
We are friendly and social fellows, and don’t usually bite so you can pick me up gently if you’re a grown up or older child but make sure your hands are clean as if they smell of food we may nip you! You’ll need to hold us gently but firmly so we don’t escape again and put me in a cardboard box with some airholes in, or ideally, a small animal cage as we can squeeze through holes larger than 1 inch.
Our owner is very upset so thank you for looking. _______________________________________________ Grapevine mailing list: info@rowlandscastle.com
