Monday 13th May for The Holdovers

‘ … the sympathy, richness and gentleness of this picture are still a marvel: a grownup drama for grownup people … it’s a pleasure to see [Giamatti] play a movie lead, his first for a while, and his prominence in this really good film is a signal that cinema could be moving back to a more approachable world of authentic drama and analogue talent.’ The Guardian

This highly-acclaimed, comic-drama is set over Christmas in an elite American school in the 1970s, when the ‘holdovers’ – those staying behind when all other students leave for the holiday – are left with the school’s most unpopular, cantankerous teacher played brilliantly by Paul Giamatti. Directed by Alexander Payne, the film also stars Dominic Sessa as a wayward teen and and Da’Vine Joy Randolph as the school cook. As their stories unfold, they find family where they might least expect it.
