COMPTON FILM CLUB – THE APARTMENT
Tuesday 7th November, 7.30pm for 8pm
Join us TOMORROW night to escape with this Billy Wilder black and white classic. Acclaimed by some as his finest film it comes highly recommended as an ‘all-time classic of corporate and sexual manners’. Starring Shirley MacLaine and Jack Lemmon, this surprisingly dark romantic-comedy was partly inspired by Noel Coward’s Brief Encounter. The chemistry between the two leads, Wilder’s comic dialogue and his understanding of the cynicism of human nature makes this film worth the watch – or the re-watch!
‘Still an indefinable marvel after 60 years, The Apartment is not merely about an everyman type, but a profound reflection on what life is like for the everyman in America … director Billy Wilder, operating at the peak of his powers.’ The Guardian
Emily, Jude, Julia, Steph and David
Compton and Up Marden School Hall, School Lane, Compton, PO18 9EZ There is plenty of parking in the school grounds, the hall and pay-bar open at 7.30pm and the film showing starts at 8pm. Tickets £6
