The next u3a meeting will take place in the Parish Hall at 2.00 pm on Monday 17th February. Our speaker this month will be Ian Moore OBE, JP, CEO of the Fire Industry Association (FIA) whose talk is entitled ‘Lessons Learnt from Historic Fire Disasters’. The FIA is the largest fire trade association in Europe with over 1200 member companies and shapes the legislation and standards for fire safety in the UK and Europe. Ian’s talk will be based on fire safety from basic chemistry of how fires start to the ways we detect and extinguish fires up to and including the Grenfell Tower tragedy

Ian began his career serving with the Royal Navy then serving as an officer in the Sultan of Oman’s Armed Forces. Since then he has been working in the Fire Industry for almost 35 years which included residences in Switzerland, Taiwan, Dubai and Libya. More recent appointments have seen him as MD at D-Tec (where he won the Queen’s Award for Innovation) and Elmdene International.

Ian has represented the fire industry to deliver 72 fire engines to Ukraine to replace those destroyed by Russia.

In his spare time Ian is a Magistrate in Portsmouth and a Rowlands Castle Parish Councillor (including being the village flag master). In this year’s Honours List Ian was awarded an OBE for his services to the fire industry and public safety.
