MEET THE FARMERS 1053 – 2023

St Hubert’s Church, Idsworth, PO8 0BA
SATURDAY 16th SEPTEMBER 2 – 4 pm
Free admission

A WONDERFUL HISTORY EXPERIENCE FOR CHILDREN OF ALL AGES
….. but aimed at children aged 6 to 12 ish, …… and Mums, Dads and Grandparents are welcome too!

St Hubert’s, the little church in the field, has looked down on the Idsworth Valley for nearly 1,000 years. During all that time, people have walked up the hill to its door through farmers’ fields.

A Saxon expert from Butser Ancient Farm will explain how the Valley would have been farmed in 1053 when the church was built and today’s farmer of the Valley fields will explain what happens now.

The talks will provide an understanding of all the differences between 1,000 years ago and now and, maybe also, a few similarities as well – in the crops grown, the tools used, the challenges faced by the farmers, the ways in which the harvest has been celebrated… and much more.

Children’s fun activities include painting competition with prizes: ‘Our Living Growing Landscape’
