FW: Armed Forces Day Weekend

Dear Friends,

This coming weekend is Armed Forces Day, Saturday to be precise, following on the Flagpole service on the green this Saturday, 28th June [please assemble at the flagpole on the Village Green at 10:45 am. Following an address by the Reviewing Officer, Captain Philip Milburn RN OBE, there will be a short commemorative service, the Last Post will be played, the Union Flag will be lowered and a two minute silence will be observed. The National Anthem will be sung to music performed by the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Army Cadet Force Band who will continue to play after the ceremony. Please make every effort to attend and show support for our Armed Forces both past and present. Serving personnel are encouraged to wear uniform, veterans are invited to wear decorations.)

The RC History & Heritage, have arranged, at the top of the Green, a display of Military memorabilia; WW2 motorbikes& Sidecars, USA Jeeps, representations of the Frech Resistance and the Home Guard. Plus the Pompeypals Charity, who lookout for War Veterans, in and around the Pompey Area, including a few remaining D-Day survivors. In addition the Iconic Model Railway of the village as it was in May/June 1944 during the D-Day build-up will be on display in the Church-on-the-Green, with all new Information A1 Boards, with Maps, Text, Pictures, Diagrams, telling the heroic story those days and the part played by the Village back then. On the Sunday, after the church Service the model will be display again plus we hope many of the ‘on the Green Displays’ from Saturday.

Please do come along to show your support, either or both days, from 11.00am after the Ceremony then around Mid-Day Sunday, to 16.00 hours on both days. We look forward to welcoming you all over this weekend.
