COMPTON FILM CLUB presents*** CHARADE*** Tuesday 20th June

COMPTON FILM CLUB
Tuesday 20th June, 7.30pm for 8pm
Thank you to everyone who has supported the film club this season. We’ve had an array of films, across several genres, from Emily – Frances O’Connor’s reimaging of the Brontë family legend, Bill Nighy’s Oscar nominated performance in Living, Almadovar’s joyously colourful Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, and our first film from Bhutan, Lunana: A Yak in the Classroom.
Our June choice is a classic comedy thriller, which celebrates its 60th anniversary this year. CHARADE starring Cary Grant and Audrey Heburn is set in Paris. Both they and the setting are enduringly stylish with an equally stylish soundtrack from Henry Mancini. Hepburn plays a widow, threatened by three of her late husband’s World War II cronies – Cary Grant plays the dashing Peter Joshua who comes to her aid, but what lies behind his smooth exterior and why does he keep changing his name? Enjoy the suspense, romance and comedy in thrilling multicolour and fall in love with Hepburn and Grant at their best.
‘During “the dark days” after JFK’s death, Charade offered Cary Grant <www.theguardian.com/film/carygrant> and Audrey Hepburn <www.theguardian.com/film/2011/jan/20/audrey-hepburn-breakfast-at-tiffanys> (the two most attractive people ever to appear on screen?) a Henry Mancini score, Givenchy dresses, suspense, glamour and Paris … Charade provided one last gleam of a golden age.’ The Guardian
