HOLY COW
After visiting Paris, Rome and downtown Los Angeles, Compton Film Club is
now off to the French countryside with Holy Cow, an award-winning film about youth, agriculture, and the Comté cheese-making competition set in the Jura region of south-eastern France. Recently featured on Radio 4’s Front Row, a huge hit with French audiences and a Cannes prize-winner – it doesn’t get more French than a drama about cheese.
‘Holy Cow is the feature debut from director (and part-time farmer) Louise Courvoisier; it’s a social-realist drama that is the opposite of grim and miserable in its warm and often funny telling of a coming-of-age story about a teenager from a struggling family of comté-makers (emilymott.us11.list-manage.com/track/click?u=cbddafa50c5dbb610e3cfcd22&id=534d3c1f21&e=3f2e903b5d) in the remote region of Jura. Courvoisier warms things up nicely with her idealism and optimism, and she gets brilliant performances from her non-professional cast, cows included.’ The Guardian
